Clay Tryan Series
Clay Tryan was born into a roping family on May 7, 1979 in Plentywood, Montana. His father, Dennis Tryan, made the WNFR team roping in 1984 and has been an inspiration to Clay. Clay credits his father for getting him started and steering him in the right direction to be successful.
Clay started roping at home about the age of five then switched to heading when he was twelve or thirteen. By the time he turned fifteen, all ten rounds of the WNFR were being televised and he was hooked.
Clay, his brother Travis, and his mom, Terri Kaye Kirkland made NFR history by being the first mother-sons combination to qualify for the finals in 2003.
